Who are we and where are we located?
We’re wine lovers living in Walla Walla Washington. Walla Walla is the heart of Washington wine country, with over 130 wineries in the area. Most of those wineries are boutique and/or family owned, so they don’t produce a lot.
After living here and meeting wonderful farmers, workers, and winemakers, we wanted to share what they love to do with you. And to make it feasible for you whether you are a wine lover or simply enjoy it on occasion. We invented A Bit Unrefined so you can try wines you’d be hard pressed to find on your own.
Even as Washington wine becomes better known, most wineries here qualify as boutique (less than 5000 cases per year – per fast facts from the Washington Wine Commission). Distributors don’t pick them up as often, so they are infrequently distributed or available elsewhere in the US. We’re here to showcase these wines and winemakers for you.
What’s in it for me?
Fun! We’re here to excite and inspire you to enjoy wine.
We work with the makers to show off the results of their work and tell you about their wines – what they made and why they made it. The winemakers find new audiences for wines they choose to offer, and you get the chance to try different hard to find wines. When was the last time you talked to a winemaker about a wine you just bought? Here, each winery we feature will speak to you.
To start with, we offer you membership to our site and a club that sends you 3 bottles of wine from different makers, twice a year (spring and fall). It’s easy, it’s manageable, and all the wines are different – find new favorites and learn more about what wines you love.
We have plans to grow going forward, including a members-only marketplace, where makers choose to offer limited wines. You’ll also get exclusive access to flash sales and discounts. As we grow across the US, we’ll also offer experiences – we’re thinking about dinners with local restaurants in your town with Washington wine and makers, or the opportunity to come visit us and get an entirely unique trip with access to the people and wine you’ve been getting to know. Why the name?
A lot of wine imagery is about beauty and refinement – of the wine, the vineyard, the views, the tasting rooms…the experience. We celebrate the unrefined – all the hard work of making wine, and however you choose to have it in your life.
