“Unrefined” commonly means not refined or polished/behaved, or common. So why are we using it? Because it also means wonderful things that we want to support in daily life.
What “A Bit Unrefined” is not describing:
- The wine. We may offer a big bold red, we may offer a very delicate and refined white. And all styles and variations in between. All our wines will be well-made, and unique.
- Being rude. Don’t be rude. We want to showcase the great boutique Washington winemakers that are out there, and connect people who would like some wine with people who make fantastic wine.
What we are about:
Celebrating the everyday. The party is amazing, but so is the sigh of relief when you come home and take off the high heels. Or watching that moment when an athlete performs to their expectations or not (writing during the summer Olympic Games). There’s no polished response at that instant – it’s the realest of real life. We offer wine as something to be one part of your life, not only the special events.
Here’s 3 quotes that speak to us – and hopefully you too – to appreciate the balance of refinement but also embracing being unrefined. At least a bit.
- “Well behaved women seldom make history…” –Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
Talk about being a bit unrefined! It’s taking on the challenge, and doing the work. It’s what led us to take a chance on starting this business, and to not let others define what we wanted to do.
- “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” – Confucius
What we want to offer is simplicity – don’t worry about the ‘right’ terminology, or the tasting notes, or what other people rate wine about. Can you learn from others? Yes. Please do. But trust yourself. We’ll offer you great wines you can’t easily get – get them, and enjoy them.
- “I don’t have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life.” – Kerry Washington
We’re not fancy (ok, maybe on occasion). We’re just starting out and we don’t have all the answers. We’re learning what you want and what serves these winemakers best so that more people experience and appreciate their works. Share thoughts with us and help us grow. We will not be perfect. No one is.
